TD specifically.

A little about this year:

- I had one ticket when I started the policy. That had since passed the 3-year mark and has come off.

- My 21st birthday is a little before the renewal date.

- Rates have been moving down slightly this year.

- I have had no accidents, no new tickets, nothing.

- When my policy started, I had no prior association with them, now I have 1 year.

- On the renewal it was made clear these events have not slid under the table. All the numbers on my record are more positive than last year.

In accordance with the ordinary principles of insurance (or maybe they have none) my rates should be going down. But Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... TD pushed my rate up by sixteen fucking hundred fucking dollars.

So, fuck you, TD. There is absolutely no fucking way I’m renewing with you. Go fuck yourself with a rusty pair of pruning shears.

My current policy was 6000$. I figured I'd stick it for a year, then it would come down. I was right, it did come down dramatically. Just not the company I'm with.

My policy went up by the exact same amount. When I added the SL600 to my policy with full coverage .

I use Progressive. I can’t say enough good things about them. Are you in an area Progressive works in? Did I mention I really like Progressive?

Flo is my bestie when it comes to insurance. Oh, and they started offering renters insurance. Guess who will be adding that when he gets an apartment?

You set yourself up with that, though...this is a primarily American site and 90% of America doesn’t know that regional acronym (being a geography nerd, I did).

Anyway, that rate sounds insane...can’t you just shop around? I don’t know if Canadian insurance is anything like Canadian banking — ie, very few choices — but in the US there are MANY small insurance companies that cater to young people and/or people with spotty driving records. Most of them are owned by the bigger companies, so we’re not talking about shady operators.

Man, that sucks, I can’t imagine paying that much for car insurance. Even when I was 20 and younger I don’t think I ever saw more than 1600 much less have insurance go up by that much. Do you drive something “sporty”, insurance companies are dumb that way, insurance for a 1990 FZR 600 was more than double that of a 2004 FZ6 for me since the FZR was a “sport bike” and the FZ6 was a “standard” bike, even though the FZ6 could run circles around the FZR in any performance measureable

Weird, I wonder what changed in their tables.

I once moved less than 5 miles and ended up with a 40% increase because it moved me on their map from a rural zone to a near-urban zone (skipping all the suburban tiers) on their map. In reality there was no change to traffic level and/or crime, but they've got to draw the lines somewhere I suppose. Switched to another company that had a different map and came out about even. You still in the same location?

I can do you one similar. I got my renewal bill, and my rates had doubled. Now, I’m a 32 year old male with no tickets on his record for 5 years at this point. I call them, you know what they said? “Well, we had a larger than expected number of accidents in your state, so we’re raising everyone’s rates.”

I did nothing wrong, and I have to support your bad drivers? Nope! Effin insurance...

My insurance is about a grand a year for liability on two cars. Then again I’m 29, in a lower insurance area, and driving nothing less than 25 years old.

Trust me, I am shopping. Frankly, that’s one of the things that bugs me. Last time I shopped around, TD was second best. The best turned me down. They asked if I would be using it for business use, and I said I’d like to if I could. “Sorry, we can’t insure you”. “OK, I won’t use it, then”. “No, it’s too late now we can’t take the risk”. Anyway, this time around they jumped up by so much when every other rate is dropping like a stone. Dafuq TD? Act consistant much?

Insurance should be public, IMO.

I worked it out, they could slash everones rates by 5/6, and still make double what they would make in taxes on insurance.

On top of that, add the fact that there ARE no taxes on insurance. More gov’t revenue, less private expenditure for something required by law, more loose cash, better economy.

When I was 16, I priced insurance in Manitoba (which is public) just for the heck of it. $1100-1600 range. At 16!!!

Chevy Colorado. V8, but that never affected anything afaik. The rate I got was the same as the online quote, and there isn’t any option for specific engines on there.

What year? If you have a brand new one full option and so on, that you have fully covered, whole still way too expensive, you can’t expect something cheap.. If it’s a 1998 one, then just move to QC lol... Your insurance cost will pay for your rent.

At 29 I was paying 700$ a year for a Corvette that I drove in winter... That was two years ago :)

Actually, last year when I was running numbers through online I found that GM pickup rates spiked between '04-'08. A brand new loaded 2014 Silverado was less than an '04 Sierra.
